Fourth Annual AGM (2009)
Of
Excellence in Africa Neuroscience and Health – Canada

President’s Report

The Year 2008 witnessed significant activity in all three of the charitable organisations operating to fulfill the Korle-Bu Neuroscience Project.

There were the usual and routine expenditures for legal fees to allow Benefic Compliance, the legal advisors to our charities, to file with Charities Directorate and Canada Revenue Agency on our behalf.

There were shipping charges to send containers to Ghana with needed medical supplies (with generous support from Universal Aide Society) to both the Korle-Bu and a northern Ghanaian hospital.

There were the consulting fees for our valuable Administrative Coordinator and the added costs for his office supplies.

The above expenditures account for the bulk of the expenses outside of the Business Development costs, which follow.

Our major expenditure of $35,374.05, ( including both disbursed and accrued liabilities) went to cover the costs of travel and expenses to Ghana by our Project Development and Design Team. Mr. Don Jenion, our Project Manager, and Mr. Kaien Shimizu of the Resource Planning Group visited Ghana in October 2008 under an agreed-upon arrangement between KBNF and the University of Ghana and the College of Health Sciences.

They reviewed the KBTH and Legon campuses and met with various consultants in order to develop a Facility plan for both campuses. The intent was to propose a developmental plan for a Biomedical Facility and a Specialist Hospital on the Legon campus, plus a new tertiary facility on the KBTH campus where the Korle- Bu Neuroscience Centre (KBNCE) will be co-located. Indeed since that visit, initial structural Demonstration Plans have been completed with the able assistance of Cohos Evamy Integrated Design of Calgary, Alberta, world experts in hospital facility planning and design.

A follow-up next-step visit by the above consultants has been planned for May 2009.

Please see the accompanying detailed self-explanatory Financial Statements for the 2008 year-end as generated by Mr. John Mwotassubi, our Finance Chair and the treasurer for Excellence…

There has been a great deal of excitement generated by seeing the actual realisation of the initial over-all Facility plans, of which KBNCE is an integral part.

Finally, with total Revenues for 2008 being $40,000.00 and Expenses being $55,757, the CRA requirement of 80% of annual Revenue being disbursed to advance the purpose of the charity has been met. The carry-over of $20,222.00 from the prior year allowed the Charity to have a positive 2008 year-end balance of $4465.00

The proposed activities taking place in 2009 and the beginning acceleration in the developmental plans indicate that 2009 will be a year of significant progress towards the ultimate dream of establishing the KBNCE.
